Cyathea Cooperi (Australian Tree Fern)

Cyathea cooperi – Australian Tree Fern

Fast-Growing • Tropical Appeal • Low Maintenance • Habitat Friendly

Cyathea cooperi is a fast-growing, eye-catching tree fern with a tall, slender trunk and graceful, lacy fronds that can reach over 4 metres long, bringing instant height and lush, tropical texture to shaded gardens. Typically reaching 2–6 metres tall, and up to 12 metres in ideal conditions, it makes a striking feature in garden beds, understory plantings, or large decorative pots. The narrow trunk—usually just 15–20 cm wide—allows it to fit easily into layered planting designs without taking up too much space.

Hardy in temperate climates, Cyathea cooperi tolerates light frost and thrives in part shade with moist, well-drained soil. It responds well to organic fertilisers and compost, and benefits from regular mulching to keep roots cool and moist. Protect from hot, dry winds for best results. Once established, it’s low-maintenance and reliable, making it a favourite among landscapers and home gardeners alike.

This fern also supports biodiversity by creating a cool, sheltered microclimate—ideal for ferns, shade plants, frogs, insects, and other wildlife. A stunning and eco-conscious choice for adding vertical interest and rainforest atmosphere to any shaded space.
