Caryota mitis – Fishtail Palm
Clumping Growth • Tropical Texture • Fast Establishing
The Fishtail Palm (Caryota mitis) is a striking clustering palm with multiple slender trunks and distinctive, jagged fronds that resemble a fish’s tail. Fast to establish and full of tropical character, it’s a great option for adding height, movement, and texture to shaded or semi-shaded areas.
Growing up to 6 metres tall and 4 metres wide, this palm makes an impact as a feature plant, privacy screen, or lush background planting. It thrives in well-drained soil and performs best in full sun to part shade. While it can tolerate light frosts, it’s best suited to frost-free or sheltered microclimates.
Perfect for creating a layered, tropical effect in both residential gardens and commercial landscapes.
Note: The red fruit of the Fishtail Palm contains oxalic acid and is not edible. We recommend avoiding handling or ingesting the fruit.
